life and career
Mathiesen was originally from Ålesund , where he spent his childhood. His grandfather was a Russian immigrant who settled in Norway. In his youth he traveled to England in 1941 by fishing boat from his hometown Ålesund . There he completed a film camera and photographer training at a military film school together with the future Norwegian architects Gunnar Fougner and Roald Jøraandstad . During the Second World War he then served as a war photographer in the British Navy and stayed in Great Britain until the end of the war. Since the beginning of the 1950s he worked in film productions in Norway, first in the field of camera work and technology and then as a cameraman. He made his début as a cameraman in 1953 in the film Ung frue forsvunnet and later stood behind the camera in the 1963 films Elskere and Vildanden, among others . Together with Knut Andersen and Knut Bohwim , they founded the film company Teamfilm in 1962 , which, among other things, produced the Norwegian film series of the Olsen Gang from 1969 to 1984 , for which he also worked as a cameraman. He was also a producer on the 1989 film Viva Villaveien! , 1991 with Frida - with the heart in hand and in 1994 working on the filming of Fredrikssons fabrikk . Mathiesen had participated several times in the Norwegian bridge championships of the Norsk Bridgeforbund for the Akademisk bridgeklubb and lived in Bærum until his death.
He is often confused with the Norwegian writer Mathis Mathisen .
