The HRB Mauertal is a flood retention basin in the Mauertal near Söhnstetten in the Heidenheim district in Baden-Württemberg . Due to its height, the structure is classified as a large dam according to the ICOLD criterion ; according to DIN 19700-12 , it is classified as a medium flood retention basin.

The dammed, only periodically water-bearing and on long stretches even bedless body of water is the Mauertal ditch, which joins the Eseltal ditch to the Wedel below Söhnstetten. The pool has never been blocked.

description

The structure seals off an approximately 5 km long, mostly dry valley line that begins north of Böhmenkirch and the lower part of which is the Mauertal . The catchment area is about 30.3 km². It is located on the karstified white Jura plateau of the Swabian Alb in the Albuch natural area .

The barrier, built in 1956, is just before the local area of Söhnstetten and has a 20.7 m high earth dam , the crown of which is almost 600  m above sea level. NHN is enough. This has an earth volume of 140,000 m³ and can hold back up to 705,000 m² of water. The flowing through Mauertal ditch joins a little below the village with the right Eseltal ditch to the Wedel , which flows into the Brenz as the crow flies about 11 km further east in Heidenheim from the right . Measured against its 218 km² surface catchment area, the frond usually carries little water.

Water association

The retention basin is operated by the Wedel-Brenz water association.
