Mederns is a village in the municipality of Wangerland in the district of Friesland in Lower Saxony .

The place is on the district road 87, about three kilometers north of Hohenkirchen . The distance to the North Sea baths Carolinensiel - Harlesiel or Horumersiel - Schillig is about eight kilometers.

history

Mederns solar park

Mederns is an old terp village and was once an independent parish . Around 1532 the church was destroyed by a storm surge and not rebuilt. The stones of the wall remnants were used by order of the Jever rule to build the St. Anne's Gate there. The deceased Medernser are buried in the old cemetery to this day. A large wooden cross has stood in the cemetery since 1992 as a reminder of the former church.

The former village school is now a residential building.

From 1964 to 1989, was in Mederns Nike - firing position (Launching Area) of the first battery of anti-aircraft missile battalion (FlaRakBtl) 26.
On the former army site is a free-range 2012 photovoltaic system connected to the grid. The total output of the Mederns solar park is four megawatts .
