Career

Mehdi Abeid, whose parents come from Algeria , was born in Montreuil, France. From the age of eleven he played a total of eight years in the youth of the RC Lens , most recently in the second team. In May 2011 Abeid signed a contract until 2016 with the English first division club Newcastle United . He should make his debut in the professional team of the Magpies in the 4th round of the English League Cup 2011/12 against Nottingham Forest . In the league, the midfielder was not used by Alan Pardew . Therefore, he was awarded to FC St. Johnstone in Scotland in January 2013 until the end of the season. There Abeid played under the Northern Irish coach of the Saints Steve Lomas for the first time against FC St. Mirren after he had been substituted for Michael Doughty . In the summer of 2013 he returned to Newcastle United, which he immediately awarded to the Greek first division club Panathinaikos Athens for one season . He helped his team qualify for the UEFA Champions League with seven goals in 32 games . Abeid returned to Newcastle United at the start of the 2014/2015 season, but finally moved to the Greek club in August 2015. But just one season later he joined the FCO Dijon in the French Ligue 1 . In 2019 he moved from there to league rivals FC Nantes .
