Molla Wague (born February 21, 1991 in Vernon ) is a French - Malian football player . The central defender is under contract with FC Nantes and is a Malian international .

Club career

Wague, whose parents are from Mali, began playing football in the youth section of a lower-class club in Les Andelys . After another stint at a regional club, he moved to the youth department of FC Rouen in 2005 . At that time, the then 14-year-old striker began retraining to become a central defender. He later took this position in his professional career. He left this after a year and switched to SM Caen . At Caen he made the jump to the second team in 2008 at the age of 17. At the beginning of the 2011/12 season he was allowed to play a first division game for the professional team of Caen for the first time. In November 2011 he scored his first goal on his second mission. His performance in the game against AC Ajaccio was highly praised by his coach Franck Dumas , among others . He made five appearances in his first professional season, but could not prevent the team from relegating to the second division in 2012. As a result, Wague was used more regularly, even if he failed with the team on the aspired promotion. This was achieved in 2014 in the second attempt.

Immediately after the successful ascent, he returned Caen the back and signed for Spanish side FC Granada . However, he was awarded directly to Udinese Calcio in the top Italian division for the 2014/15 season . There he mostly took on the role of a substitute player and was permanently signed after the loan ended in summer 2015.

In January 2017 Wague moved to Leicester City on loan .

National team

In 2009 he was appointed to the French U-19 squad and made his debut in a 1-0 draw against Belgium . But this remained his only commitment for a French youth national team. Wague, who is also eligible to play for Mali, was supposed to take part in the 2011 African Under-20 Championship for the Mali U-20s, but was prevented from doing so by malaria after a trip to Africa. Two years later he was appointed to the Malian team at the 2013 African Cup . In the 1-0 win against the Nigerien selection , he was already on the field for the full time in the first group game and thus celebrated his debut. In the course of the tournament he was used a total of four times and took third place with Mali. This was followed by occasional appointments to the national team. He was also in the squad at the 2015 African Cup of Nations, but his team retired after the group stage after a negative drawing of lots against the team from Guinea with equal points and goals.
