Fábio Pereira da Silva , called Fábio (born July 9, 1990 in Petrópolis ) is a Brazilian football player . In addition to Brazilian citizenship, Fábio also has Portuguese citizenship. He is the twin brother of Rafael , who also played for Manchester United . He has been under contract with FC Nantes since the 2018/19 season .
Career
In the club
In his youth Fábio played for Fluminense . He made his professional debut in Fluminense in 2005. In this game he and his brother Rafael were discovered by Manchester United scout Les Kershaw . Eventually, he received a preliminary contract from Manchester United stating that he would stay with Fluminense until he was 18. In January 2008 he signed for five years until 2013. He made his competitive debut for Manchester United on August 9, 2009, when he came on as a substitute for John O'Shea at the FA Community Shield against Chelsea .
A week later, he played his first game in the Premier League , when he ran in the home game against Birmingham City from the start and was allowed to play through the entire game. On September 23, 2009, Fábio was sent off in the League Cup against Wolverhampton Wanderers after 30 minutes after a red card of the field. The defender played for the first time in the UEFA Champions League on October 21, 2009 in the away game at CSKA Moscow . He was substituted for Michael Carrick shortly before the end .
For the 2012/13 season Fábio was loaned to league rivals Queens Park Rangers .
On January 31, 2014, Fábio moved to Cardiff City .
In the summer of 2016 he was signed by Middlesbrough FC .
In the national team
Fábio won the U-15 South American Championship in 2005 with the Brazilian U-15 selection together with his twin brother . Two years later, both took part in the U-17 South American Championship , which Brazil also finished as tournament winners and thus qualified for the U-17 World Cup in 2007 in South Korea. At the continental finals, Fábio completed all nine games and was the second top scorer of the tournament with seven goals behind his compatriot Lula . At the World Cup finals, Fábio, who also acted as team captain, formed the full-back duo with his brother Rafael. Both are highlighted in the official tournament report as “ fast full-backs with good technique and an offensive drive ”. The tournament ended for the team in the round of 16 after a 1-0 defeat against Ghana, Fábio had scored three goals in the course of the tournament.
