My mother plays crazy is a 2019 German television film by John Delbridge. It is the second part of the film series Meine Mutter ... with Diana Amft , Stephan Luca and Margarita Broich in the leading roles.

action

Country inn owner Antonia 'Toni' Janssen and star chef Rufus van Berg have been running Toni's “Kupferkanne” together for a year as a cross-over between star cuisine and home-style cooking. The initial joy of working together gradually gives way to the daily hustle and bustle. Toni feels more and more displaced by Rufus in the kitchen. She therefore concentrates on service, whereupon Toni's mother Heidi feels superfluous. Fate means well with both of them, because Heidi surprisingly wins a wellness stay at the Ocean Grant Hotel for two in a competition. Since Rufus feels indispensable in the restaurant, Toni and Heidi use the holiday weekend for themselves.

Hardly having arrived in the far north, Heidi meets former employee Ivo at the Hotel Rufus, who works here as a waiter. Toni's mother is "on fire" to see the attractive Belgian again and spends almost every free minute with him from now on. Ivo tells Heidi about his dream of opening his own bar and after just a few conversations, Heidi is ready to give him financial support. Toni is not at all enthusiastic about this plan, after all they hardly know Ivo. At first he is reluctant to accept the money that Heidi got quickly, but then he takes it.

In the “copper can” Rufus has problems with his supplier in France. After some deliberation, he now decides to use the regional producers. After all, Toni has long been on his mind not only to buy the expensive luxury ingredients from abroad. But that’s not enough, the stove is now “going to die” and the evening business is on the brink. Fortunately, Toni's former friend Hans-Jürgen can help and repair the stove. Without consulting Toni, Rufus hires HaJü as caretaker.

After Toni calls Rufus that her mother is about to make a big mistake, but she doesn't want to hear about it, Rufus immediately follows them to support Toni. The restaurant continues to lead its team alone. Rufus now has to explain to Heidi that Ivo has a very relaxed relationship with money and that she must have made a big mistake. She notices that herself when she caught Ivo in the casino and he has just gambled away all the money. Heidi is devastated and deeply disappointed in Ivo. Toni urges Ivo to sign a promissory note for her mother, but he confesses that these are not his only debts. Toni then tries her luck in the casino and can actually make up for almost a third of her mother's loss. Ivo promises Heidi to try everything to repay her debt.

Back in the Eifel, Rufus Toni makes a marriage proposal and Heidi also has a glimmer of hope, because she receives a letter from Ivo, in which he announces that he will bring her the first 1000 euros in person shortly.

Reviews

Tilmann P. Gangloff from Tittelbach.tv said: “The script by Christian Pfannenschmidt finds the actual plot far too late. In this way it becomes clear that the mutual story of the pair of lovers doesn't reveal much anymore, especially since Amft and Luca seem strangely distant here. The film is fun because of Margarita Broich, who, despite all the joy of the cliché of Rhenish cheerful nature, also gives the merry widow thoughtful moments. "

The critics of TV Spielfilm rated it positively and wrote: “There aren't many who can deliver a Friday night comedy like the Amft! Lined with funny lines (book: Christian Pfannenschmidt) and well-grounded charm, plus Broich and Luca as fantastic opponents, that's really good fun. The sequel to 'My mother is impossible' […] is a delicious screwball menu! "
