action

The star restaurant “Kupferkanne” in Cologne lost its Michelin star in the new edition of an influential gourmet guide . In contrast, a small country bar in the Eifel with the name “Kupferkanne” is awarded a star. For the talented star chef Rufus van Berg, this is a disaster, because his sales immediately collapse, guests stay away and the landlord threatens to terminate the business.

But even in the Eifel, landlady Toni is not really happy with the sudden boom. Up until now she had a simple regional cuisine with regulars and long-distance drivers as the main customers, now there are more and more arrogant and spoiled townspeople who she often cannot please. Even if her mother Adelheid is happy about the increased sales, Toni does not want to continue like this. Without further ado, she makes her way to the publishing house of the gourmet guide and wants to demand that her star be taken back.

At the same time, Rufus has this concern in the opposite sense for his restaurant, but the publisher currently sees no way of correcting this oversight in a timely manner. The books have been printed and he won't be able to change this until the next edition. Toni and Rufus get to know each other here, but this is not a good star either, because Toni is so dismissive and angry about the whole situation that in the end she not only gets a ticket for wrong parking, but also rams Rufus' car . Rufus, on the other hand, behaves quite arrogantly towards Toni, but in the end he is impressed by her resolute demeanor at the publisher.

Since he hopes that the fight for the return of his star will be more effective with her, he makes her a "peace offer" and invites her and her mother to dinner in his restaurant. Toni gets to know the top chef from his charming side and her mother also hooks up with his maitre Ivo. When Rufus makes a return visit to Toni's restaurant, he comes in handy to help her with the kitchen work.

As a thank you, she takes him on a little ride. Here you tell Rufus his real reason for coming. His PR consultant had suggested that the two compete against each other in culinary terms on the TV cooking show "Topf und Pfanne". In this way they could show what they can do in advertising and publicize and correct the confusion. Rufus would win his guests back and Toni would finally get rid of them. She lets herself be convinced, but doesn't know that the show is a duel format and that they don't have to cook with each other but against each other . Rufus has reservations about showing Toni, for whom he has developed tender feelings, in front of the camera. Toni suspects this, but lets himself be persuaded not to give up. As soon as the show begins, however, Toni realizes that her appearance is actually a laughing stock.

Disappointed, Toni goes back to her "copper jug" and Rufus is not happy either. The win on the show didn't impress the investor of his restaurant and he has already organized a new operator behind Rufus' back. Rufus goes to Toni with a new concept, who actually didn't want to see him again, but is now happy about his visit. Together they run Toni's "Kupferkanne" as a crossover between star cuisine and home-style cooking. Both are happy and look forward to spending time together.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv said: “If the story of this ARD Friday film worked better on its surface - beyond the good acting performances - the stereotypical course of action would not be a problem. But the main story contains little that is exciting, the sub-plots are anything but original, and the whole thing is rather thin in terms of dramaturgy. 'My mother is impossible' is a tie between comedy, drama & romance. As a result, some scenes would do credit to the 'Herzkino' on ZDF. The happy ending is well thought out in terms of relationships. "

For evangelisch.de , Tilmann P. Gangloff judged : “The plot moves in the expected trajectories, and the drafts of the central characters are just as unsurprising as their interpretation by the three main actors.” On the other hand, he perceived “the unnecessarily thick ones” as “disturbing” Drafts of the other minor characters. "" The music is [...] very suitable, and the film also optically lives up to its working title ["Stars that fall from the sky"] with the romantic shooting star. "

Sidney Schering from Oddsmeter.de wrote: “Comedy of confusion, cooking fun and romance: Jurij Neumann (director) and Christian Pfannenschmidt (screenplay) mix a new film vehicle for Diana Amft from these ingredients.” “In terms of staging, 'My mother is impossible' is unambitious, but also not noticeably negative. The script boils up the obligatory tension between its main characters at the beginning of the third act in an unimaginative way. The music selection is functional - in the good as well as in the bad sense of the word. But the characterization of the culinary contrasts, even if not very insightful, is charming and does not get too caught up in clichés. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave the film the best rating (thumbs up) and wrote: “The rest of the easily digestible screwball comedy is cooked as down-to-earth as the well-timed dialogues, which oscillate between nice and dry and well-spiced, and the urban crowd Cocoa pulled and the TV landscape caricatured. The chemistry between the stars is also right. "
