Rudolf von Ploetz

Karl Rudolf Hugo von Ploetz (born April 8, 1825 in Sangerhausen , † January 21, 1898 in Magdeburg ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Rudolf came from the Neumark nobility family von Ploetz . He was the son of the royal Saxon Rittmeister Adolf von Ploetz (1789–1843) and his wife Sophie, née Hornickel (1799–1864).

Military career

Ploetz joined the 26th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a musketeer on January 21, 1843 and was promoted to secondary lieutenant by mid-March 1847 . As such, he took part in the suppression of the Baden Revolution in 1849 and was in command of the replacement battalion of the 13th Infantry Brigade in November / December of the following year . At the beginning of April 1851 Ploetz became adjutant of the 2nd battalion, then acted as regimental adjutant from the end of April 1854 to mid-June 1859 and rose in this position to captain . On July 1, 1860, he was appointed company commander . In this capacity he took part in the battle of Münchengrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria and was wounded in the right forearm by a blow shot at Königgrätz . For his work, Ploetz received the Crown Order IV. Class with Swords and his regiment chief Karl Anton zu Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen honored him with the award of the Cross of Honor III. With the promotion to major , Ploetz was transferred to the 7th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 96 at the end of September 1867 and was appointed commander of the 1st Battalion in Altenburg at the end of October 1868 . In the war against France he led his association in 1870/71 at Beaumont , Sedan and before Paris . In addition to the Iron Cross, 2nd class, Ploetz was awarded the Schwarzburg Cross of Honor, 1st Class with Swords. After the peace treaty he was promoted to lieutenant colonel at the end of March 1873 and in mid-April 1875 he was commissioned to lead the 2nd Hanoverian Infantry Regiment No. 77 under a position à la suite . On June 19, 1875 he was appointed regimental commander and on July 3, 1875 he was promoted to colonel . In approval of his leave request Ploetz was on 12 February 1881 the character as a major general and board for disposition made. After his departure, Kaiser Wilhelm I awarded him the Order of the Crown, Second Class with Swords, on September 7, 1881.

He died of a stroke in 1898 .
