Melamchi ( Nepali मेलम्ची ) is a city ( municipality ) in central Nepal in the Sindhupalchok district .

The city was created in 2014 by amalgamating seven Village Development Committees (VDCs): Bansbari , Jyamire , Melamchi , Phatakshila , Sikharpur , Sindhukot and Talamarang . The urban area covers 90.4 km². Melamchi is located 30 km as the crow flies east-northeast of Kathmandu at the confluence of the Melamchi Khola with the Indrawati .

Residents

At the 2011 census, the VDCs from which the city of Melamchi emerged had 28,955 inhabitants (13,953 male) in 6354 households.
