Melanie Burke (born December 21, 1980 in Wanganui ) is a duathlete and triathlete from New Zealand who used to be active in rowing. She is the duathlon world champion on the long distance (2011).

Career

Melanie Burke was active in the national rowing association and in 2004 she missed a desired qualification for the Summer Olympic Games.

In 2007 she became the New Zealand marathon champion.

World Champion Duathlon 2011

In September 2011 she became the duathlon world champion on the long distance in Zofingen, Switzerland (10 km running, 150 km cycling and 30 km running). She was trained by former New Zealand athlete Barry Magee and in swimming by triathlete and Ironman winner Rick Wells .

In August 2013 she became national duathlon champion in Taupo. In 2014 the 34-year-old competed in the Ironman Hawaii for the first time and finished 29th.

In May 2018 she finished second at Ironman Australia and qualified for the second time since 2014 for a starting place at Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships).

Melanie Burke now lives in Auckland.
