Merklingsen is a district of the municipality of Welver in the district of Soest ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
The place is surrounded by small forest areas and green flowing water, in a shallow depression that merges into an open landscape. The townscape is characterized by old trees, such as weeping willows, oaks and plane trees , as well as orchards. The settlement structure of the village is hamlet-like , large farmsteads determine the picture. There is no infrastructure worth mentioning. There are several wind turbines in the area . The agricultural experimental farm of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences is remarkable .
Merklingsen was merged with other villages on July 1, 1969 to form the new community of Welver.
