Schwefe is a district of the municipality of Welver in the district of Soest ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

The place is located in the southeastern part of the municipality, it is traversed by the Blögge and the Amperbach. The row village is predominantly agricultural, but the number of full-time and part-time businesses is falling. In the past, around 25 new buildings have been built in the area around the red beech . Several smaller companies have settled and offer some jobs.

history

Several archaeological finds, such as a spearhead and a cut stone ax, suggest that the area was settled in early history . The place was mentioned in documents perhaps as early as 1028 as Suevan , but certainly in the 13th century as Sweva and Sveve . Artus de Sveve is mentioned as early as 1212 . The origin of the place name has long been considered uncertain, according to recent interpretations the name refers to a '(damp) place with unsteady ground'. In a document from 1253 the Buckemühle was mentioned, it belonged to the Curtis Bukele.

Village life is shaped by a number of associations such as riflemen and warriors.

On July 1, 1969, Schwefe merged with other villages to form the new municipality of Welver. Before that the place belonged to the Borgeln-Schwefe office.
