Nateln is a district of the municipality of Welver in the Soest district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

The place was mentioned in 1167 as Nordhaldun. The row village lay between the Ahse and a wooded ridge. Protection from enemy attacks was provided by the knight 's seat of the Nateln house and two fortified mansions, the Nigge Hus and “the temple”. The Nateln house is still preserved today and is privately owned. An avenue of lime trees leads to the one - and - a - half - story half- timbered building , which is partially enclosed . The Aurora II union dug for coal in the village in 1899 and found a salt spring at a depth of around 220 m , which, however, remained unused. Over 57,000 liters of brine poured into the Ahse every hour. The spring was sealed with concrete in 1967. The center of the village is an ensemble of a war memorial, a bench and a place-name sign with a description of the history of the place names of Nateln and its districts. On July 1, 1969, Nateln merged with other villages to form the new community of Welver.
