Merlin Surget (born December 3, 1999 ) is a French snowboarder . He starts in snowboard cross.

Career

Surget, who starts for the CS Chamonix, took part in the European Cup for the first time in Pitztal in December 2014 and finished 65th. He won the gold medal at the European Olympic Winter Youth Festival 2015 in Schruns . In the 2015/16 season he made his debut in the Snowboard World Cup in Montafon , which he finished in 66th place and eighth place at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer . The following year he came in fifth place at the Junior World Championships in Klínovec and 48th place at the Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada . In December 2017 in Montafon he achieved his first podium finish in the World Cup with Pierre Vaultier with third place in the team competition and his first top ten position with eighth place in the individual. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he finished 17th. In the following year he took 34th place in the individual and seventh place in the team competition at the World Championships in Park City and 16th place in the Junior World Championships on the Reiteralm . At the end of March 2019 he became French champion in Isola 2000 . In the 2019/20 season he won the snowboard cross ranking in the European Cup with two first places in Puy-Saint-Vincent and second in Grasgehren . In the World Cup he was in the top ten four times. With third place in Cervinia he reached his first podium in the individual world cup and at the end of the season he was eighth in the snowboard cross world cup.

Surget has participated in 29 World Cups so far and has finished in the top ten six times. (Status: end of season 2019/20)
