Michael Chow ( Chinese  周英華  /  周英华 , Pinyin Zhōu Yīnghuá ; born February 6, 1939 in Shanghai , China ) is a British actor and internationally known restaurateur of Chinese origin.

biography

Chow's father, Zhou Xinfang, was China's most famous actor in his day. Together with his older sister Tsai Chin , he emigrated to England in 1952 and studied architecture in London. Until the opening of his famous restaurant he worked as a dishwasher and waiter but also as a painter, sculptor and actor. He has two children with model Tina Chow, who died in 1992. His daughter China Chow is also an actress and modeled for Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein, among others .

Career

Before Chow opened his famous restaurant, he ran nightclubs and a hair salon, which he called "Twiggy". In 1968 he founded his first “Mr. Chow ” restaurant in London. Here he served traditional Chinese food. Due to the success, other restaurants followed in New York City , Miami , Las Vegas and Beverly Hills .

In addition to his work as a restaurateur, he worked, like his sister, in the James Bond film You Only Live Twice . Here he played next to Burt Kwouk a character named number 4. He had another appearance in 1982 in Wim Wenders film Hammett . He also played in films such as Lethal Weapon 4 , Rush Hour 1-3 and in the television series Relic Hunter - Die Schatzjägerin .
