Michael Rainer Harig (born September 3, 1960 in Sohland on the Spree ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He is the district administrator of the Saxon district of Bautzen .

Life

Harig grew up with five siblings in Sohland on the Spree. He was denied further education in the GDR because he refused to attend youth consecration and was not a member of the FDJ . From 1977 to 1979 he trained as a cutting machine operator. Then he did his military service with the NVA until May 1981 . Between 1981 and 1990 he worked as a cutting machine operator. From 1990 to 1994 he studied economics and business administration at the Administration and Business Academy of Saxony, graduating with a degree in administration and business administration (VWA). In April 2018 he announced that he would apply for the office of Managing President of the East German Savings Banks Association in 2019. In September 2018 it became public that the previous incumbent of the East German Savings Banks Association continued to act as president, as it was not possible to agree on a new candidate.

Political career

In 1990 Harig became mayor of the municipality of Sohland on the Spree. He held this office until 2001. From 1994 to 2001 he was a member of the district assembly of the Bautzen district and chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. On June 10, 2001, he was elected to succeed Horst Gallert as District Administrator of the Bautzen district, which he assumed on August 1, 2001. On June 8, 2008, he won the election to the district administrator of the Bautzen district, which was enlarged as a result of the Saxon district reform in 2008 , and took up his post like his counterparts on August 1, 2008. On June 7, 2015, he was confirmed in office with 72.4% of the votes.
