Dirk Hilbert
Dirk Hilbert (born October 23, 1971 in Dresden ) is a German local politician ( FDP ). Since 2015 he has been Lord Mayor of the Saxon state capital Dresden.
Life
After training as an electronics technician and attending evening grammar school, Hilbert studied industrial engineering at the Technical University of Dresden from 1992 and graduated in 1998 with a diploma.
From 1998 to 2000 he worked as an executive assistant at the German Aerospace Center in Cologne , then in Risk Management at the airship company CargoLifter Development GmbH in Krausnick . In addition, from 1997 Hilbert was market manager at the Radebeul Karl May Festival and the Autumn and Wine Festival .
In 2001, the newly elected Lord Mayor Ingolf Roßberg (FDP) brought the certified project management specialist ( RKW / GPM ) to the Dresden municipal administration, where he was appointed councilor for economics in the state capital of Dresden in 2001.
As of December 2008, he was First Mayor's Deputy Mayor Helma Orosz ( CDU ). From February 2011 to March 1, 2012, he had taken over the official duties of the mayor who had fallen ill on an interim basis, and since Orosz's resignation in March 2015, Hilbert took over the affairs of the state capital on an interim basis.
During the mayor's election campaign, his FDP membership was suspended and he entered as a non-party candidate, proposed by the Association of Independent Citizens for Dresden e. V. , on. He was supported by the free voters in the first ballot . With 31.7% of the vote, he came in second behind the Saxon Science Minister Eva-Maria Stange (SPD), but ahead of Markus Ulbig from the previously ruling CDU. After the first ballot, the candidates from the CDU and AfD as well as Tatjana Festerling ( Pegida ) were eliminated and recommended Hilbert's election, while Stange was supported by the Greens, Leftists and Pirates. Hilbert won the second ballot on July 5, 2015 with 54.2% of the valid votes and a turnout of 42.7%. It performed best in the suburbs of Schönfeld-Weißig , Weixdorf and Lockwitz (each over 70%), and the weakest in the Outer Neustadt (16.3%). He took up his seven-year term as Lord Mayor of Dresden on September 3, 2015.
Hilbert is married and has one son. Hilbert and his family have been under police protection since 2016 . He had said in a newspaper interview: “There are still attempts to reinterpret history and to let Dresden stand in a victim myth. Dresden was not an innocent city. ”As a result, he received increasing numbers of death threats.

Varia
- In November 2018, the Association of Taxpayers of Saxony named Dresden's Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert the Schleudersachsen 2018 . Because of his above-average number of business trips to Germany and abroad for a mayor, he was nominated for the negative award as Saxony's “Spender of the Year”. In 2017, Hilbert spent a total of 72 days outside of his official territory - around ten times abroad. The trips plus work lunches and gifts cost the city just under 33,600 euros.
