The Euroregion Elbe / Labe is one of the European regions with German and Czech parts. The purpose of the community interest group is cross-border cooperation on a supranational level. The largest cities in the region are Dresden and Ústí nad Labem .

location

It is named after the Elbe , which shapes the landscape (Czech: Labe ). The Euroregion covers an area of ​​5400 km², in which 1.4 million people live in 214 North Bohemian and 63 Saxon municipalities. Formative natural areas are the Eastern Ore Mountains , Saxon Switzerland , the Saxon Elbland with the Dresden Elbe valley , the North Bohemian Basin and the Bohemian Central Mountains . In addition, northern Bohemia and the Dresden metropolitan area form important economic areas. Cross-border traffic axes in the region are the A17 / D8 motorway , the Dresden - Prague and the Elbe inland waterway . With regard to the latter, the Euroregion publishes BUND's negative stance on the Děčín barrage project .

The Euroregion Elbe / Labe was founded in 1992 and has been a member of the Working Group on European Border Regions (AEBR) since 1993 . The organization of the Euroregion is based on two national associations, each of which sends 15 people to a joint council. This is chaired by the executive committee with equal representation. Current presidents are Dirk Hilbert (First Mayor Dresden) and Jan Kubata (Lord Mayor Ústí n. L.). Honorary members of the Presidium are Hans-Jürgen Evers (Honorary President) and Ludwig-Dieter Wagner .

The German municipal community Euroregion Upper Elbe Valley / Eastern Ore Mountains eV today includes the city of Dresden , the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains , the large district town of Dippoldiswalde , the large district town of Pirna and the Saxon Switzerland business initiative . When it was founded, the former districts of Dippoldiswalde , Freital , Meißen , Dresden , Pirna , Sebnitz and the city of Dresden were members. The German secretariat is based in Pirna, the managing director of the local community is Christian Preußcher.

In the Czech community association (Svaz obce Euroregion Labe) 214 communities from what is now Ústecký kraj (Aussig region) have come together. At the time of foundation, these were selected municipalities in the political districts of Děčín (western part), Teplice , Litoměřice , Ústí nad Labem .
