Michael Leuschner (born April 29, 1948 in Wernigerode ) is a German pianist and professor for piano at the University of Music in Freiburg i. Br.

Michael Leuschner was born on April 29, 1948 in Wernigerode am Harz . His father Joachim Leuschner was a historian and university professor, his mother Helga an interpreter. He grew up in Göttingen , received his first piano lessons from Meta Conrad and later from Martin Galling . From 1967 to 1973 he studied at the University of Music in Freiburg i. Br. With Professors Edith Picht-Axenfeld , Helmut Barth (chamber music) and Carl Seemann . He won various prizes and a scholarship that enabled him to continue studying with Bernard Roberts in London in 1976 . He was also invited to take part in the Beethoven course in Positano with Wilhelm Kempff . Even Alfred Brendel counted as part of a course to his teachers.

From 1984 to 1989 Leuschner was a professor at the Hanover University of Music and Theater . In 1989 he followed a call to Freiburg i. Br. To the University of Music where he taught until 2014. Until 2011 he was spokesman for the keyboard instruments department for many years. His teaching activities regularly extended to master classes in Indonesia , Thailand , China , Japan , the USA , Russia , Spain , Georgia and Ukraine . In 1990 he was artist in residence at the University of Western Australia in Perth . Since 2016, Leuschner has been an increasingly sought-after teacher in various cities in China.

Leuschner gives concerts in many countries in Europe and Asia , in Australia , the USA and South America . His extensive repertoire with numerous works from Bach to classical modernism includes around 300 works, including the 32 sonatas by Beethoven , which he repeatedly performed cyclically. In addition to his solo activities, Leuschner also often devotes himself to chamber music , including a. as a member of the Dreisam Trio founded in 1994. His chamber music repertoire includes almost all duos for violin and piano, cello and piano as well as the most important trios , piano quartets and quintets .

CD recordings appeared and a. in Germany (abadone) with works by Bach, Mozart , Schubert , Chopin , Schumann and Debussy , Beethoven, Brahms , Switzerland (four-hand works by Schubert), USA with sonatas by Clementi (brioso) and Japan (ACJ) a. a. with works by Handel , Beethoven, Chopin and Brahms. Since 2014 he has self-published further CDs with works by Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Franck, Ravel and others. Leuschner can also be heard on YouTube with classical piano pieces, including the photo and video videos by Meinolf Wewel .

For many years, Leuschner was the chairman of the Denzlinger Kulturkreis and the organizer of a well-known concert series with chamber concerts. In 2003 he was awarded the 1st Denzlinger Culture Prize for his services.
