Career

Michael Rasmussen was born in Vancouver and played in his youth for the youth program Okanagan Hockey . In 2014 he was selected in seventh position in the Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League (WHL) by the Tri-City Americans and made his debut for the team towards the end of the 2014/15 season in the WHL, the highest-ranking junior league in the region. The center-forward established himself as a regular scorer for the Americans, with a total of 32 goals and 23 assists in 50 games in the 2016/17 season before he was considered ninth in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings . For the time being, however, he returned for another season in the WHL, in which he led the Americans as team captain to the semi-finals of the playoffs and failed with them there on the Everett Silvertips . In addition, he placed second on the playoff scorer list with 33 points from only 14 games .

After Rasmussen had already signed an entry contract with the Red Wings in August 2017 , he earned a place in their squad as part of the preparation for the 2018/19 season and subsequently made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) in early October 2018 . He was subsequently used regularly and ended the season with 62 completed NHL games, but lost this regular place at the beginning of the following season. As a result, he has since been mostly on the ice with the Red Wings farm team in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Grand Rapids Griffins .

International

In the international field, Rasmussen took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2015 and the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2016 , where he missed the medal ranks with the Canadian selection.
