Michael John Reiziger (born May 3, 1973 in Amstelveen ) is a former Dutch football player .
Player career
society
Reiziger was already at the youth boarding school at Ajax Amsterdam before joining the professional squad in 1990. After two years with only two appearances, Ajax officials decided to loan the young full-back to FC Volendam for one season and then another to FC Groningen . In Groningen, Reiziger was able to collect match practice and develop into a permanent fixture.
After he returned to Ajax (then under van Gaal ), he fought for a regular place there. For the 1996/97 season he moved to Italy for AC Milan . There he only made ten league appearances in one year. He was then signed by FC Barcelona , where he was able to re-establish himself and, as in the Netherlands, collected national and international titles. In Barcelona he played with compatriots like Patrick Kluivert , Phillip Cocu , Boudewijn Zenden , Ronald and Frank de Boer , coach was again van Gaal.
After seven years in Spain, Reiziger decided to move to England in the Premier League for Middlesbrough FC . After he came to only 18 missions in the first season, he returned to his home country after 4 match days of the 2004/05 season shortly before the end of the summer transfer period.
He won the Dutch championship twice with PSV Eindhoven , but was not used as often as before. In the summer of 2007 he ended his professional career. On February 17, 2010, he received his coaching diploma.
National team
Reiziger made his debut for the Dutch national team on October 12, 1994 against the selection of Norway . He made 72 international appearances for the Oranje and resigned after Euro 2004 .
His first major tournament was the 1996 European Championship , where Elftal was eliminated in the quarter-finals against France .
At the 1998 World Cup he reached the semi-finals with the national team, but lost on penalties with 2: 4 against Brazil . In the game for third place, the team had to admit defeat against Croatia . Reiziger played four out of seven possible games.
In his own country, at the European Football Championship in 2000 , Reiziger played two games. As at the World Cup two years earlier, the Dutch were eliminated in the semi-finals.
His last tournament with the Netherlands was the 2004 European Football Championship . They made it back to the semi-finals and had to admit defeat there. Reiziger came up with four inserts.

Coaching career
After his active career, Reiziger made his coaching license - together with Dennis Bergkamp , Phillip Cocu and Patrick Kluivert , among others . He made his first experiences in the youth departments of AFC Ajax and FC Barcelona. For the 2013/14 season he will take over the U-17 team from Sparta Rotterdam .
Private life
Michael Reiziger is married and has two children.
