Michael von Hassel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael von Hassel (* 1978 in Munich ) is a German photographer and artist.

Life

Hassel grew up in the south of Munich. He made his Abitur at the high school of the Benedictine Schäftlarn . After completing his military service in the German armed forces , he trained as a banker at Bayerische Landesbank in Munich and then worked for a while at the same bank in London . He then studied business administration at the Economics Faculty of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (WFI) and graduated as a business graduate . Towards the end of his studies he held his first photo exhibitions and has since devoted himself entirely to photographic art .

Hassel is in a relationship with actress Alexandra Kamp .

photography

Hassel calls his way of photography hyper-realistic . With his pictures he would like to show the viewer their world in a particularly intense way. “Our eye has a performance limit. You can only see in a certain area and not as intensely as you can photograph. ”His motifs mostly show landscapes or places. He doesn't like taking photos of people.

The images of Michael von Hassel are very intense color. He describes why that is so: “I used to work in black and white . Then the photo artist colleague Olaf Otto Becker came to an exhibition and said something like: 'You already have the success that you deserve. It's all very well. But you're making it damn easy for yourself if you leave out the color. ' That annoyed me at first, because back then he only photographed gray-white glaciers with light gray skies in the background and dark gray water in the foreground. So his pictures weren't particularly colorful, even if incredibly special. But of course he was absolutely right. Taking a black and white photo and then presenting it as 'photo art' is pretty easy. Delivering something in color and then getting it on the wall of the collectors as 'photo art' is much more difficult and therefore more attractive. "

In July 2014 his monograph Compendium was published by teNeues-Verlag .

Awards

Michael von Hassel received the Hot Art Award for the best contemporary artist at the Hot Art Fair 2009 in Basel . He shared the award with his colleagues Judith Grote, Florian Walter and Maximilian Westphal.

In 2014, von Hassel was the patron of the Fotomarathon Munich.
