Prince Mikhail Mikhailovich Golitsyn ( Russian Михаил Михайлович Голицын ; born October 22 . Jul / 1. November 1684 greg. In Moscow , † March 14 jul. / 25. March 1764 greg. ) Was a Russian senator , diplomat and Admiral .
Life
Origin and family
Mikhail the Younger was a member of geminidischen princely family Golitsyn . He was the son of Prince Mikhail Andreevich Golitsyn (1639–1687) and his wife Praskovia Nikitichna, née Kaftyrjewa (1645–1715). The Russian Field Marshal Mikhail Mikhailovich Golitsyn (the Elder) (1675-1730) was his older brother.
His first marriage to Maria Dmitrijewna Golowina († 1721) remained childless. The second marriage of Tatjana Kirillowna Narishkina (1704–1757), which was closed in 1722, resulted in five sons and three daughters.
Career
From his father's inheritance, Golitsyn was the heir to Jakowlewskoe near Moscow. He received his naval training in Holland and England from 1708 and returned to Russia in 1717. Here he took part in the Great Northern War , in particular the sea battle at Grönham , where he was able to distinguish himself. From 1726 he was advisor to the Admiralty College and received the position of Commander-in-Chief. In 1727 he was appointed President of the College of Justice. In 1728 he became a privy councilor and senator. In 1732 he returned to the Navy as Vice Admiral , but left at the end of the decade. From 1740 to 1741, he was governor in Astrakhan . He then returned to the Senate , in 1743 he was awarded the Alexander Nevsky Order and in 1745 he advanced to the Real Secret Council . From 1745 to 1748 he was an envoy to Persia . He received his promotion to admiral in 1746 and was honored with the Order of Andrew in the same year . From 1748 he was the commander of the Russian fleet and from 1750 president of the Admiralty College. From December 1752 to May 1754 he was governor of St. Petersburg , where he initiated the construction of the Nicholas Naval Cathedral . In 1756 he was promoted to Grand Admiral . Under Peter III. Golitsyn resigned, but was reappointed to all previous offices under Catherine II , but received his departure as early as Christmas 1762 due to old age . Golitsyn was buried in Kitai-Gorod in the Trinity Monastery.
