Mikhail Viktorovich Kirpichev
Mikhail Viktorovich Kirpichev ( Russian Михаил Викторович Кирпичёв * August 11 . Jul / 23. August 1879 greg. In St. Petersburg ; † 10. January 1955 in Moscow ) was a Russian physicist and university teacher .
Life
Kirpitschow, son of the physicist Viktor Lwowitsch Kirpitschow , attended the 3rd Kharkov high school and then studied at the St. Petersburg Technology Institute with graduation in 1907.
Kirpichev researched and taught at the Leningrad Physics-Technical Institute and the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute as well as the Leningrad Central Boiler Turbine Institute and the Energetic Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, from 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)). For this he also taught at the Moscow Energetic Institute (MEI) and at the Moscow Chemical engineering -Institut. In 1929 he was elected a corresponding member and in 1939 a full member of the AN-SSSR.
Kirpitschow's main research areas were convective heat exchange in pipes with different cross-sections, the hydrodynamic theory of heat exchange in thermal power stations and building ventilation . To be positive opinion in January 1949 Alexander Alexandrovich Gawronskis offer to the Sakhalin -Fischindustrie headquarters, to Kamchatka , a geothermal energy - power station to build, initiated relevant studies on Kamchatka and in 1955 the decision to build this power plant, which under the direction of Samson Semenovich Kutateladses built and went into operation in 1967.
Most important were Kirpitschow's work on similarity theory and the physical modeling of technical processes and systems. Together with Alexander Adolfowitsch Guchman , he formulated the necessary and sufficient conditions for the similarity of physical phenomena. This work on the similarity theory was continued by Samson Semjonowitsch Kutateladze.
Kirpichov was married to the singer and film actress Serafima Fyodorovna Kirpichova nee Gordejenko (1891-1974).
Kirpichev was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery.
