Samson Semyonovich Kutateladze (July 15, 1984)

Samson Semenovich Kutateladze ( Russian Самсон Семёнович Кутателадзе * July 18 . Jul / 31 July  1914 greg. In St. Petersburg ; † 20th March 1986 in Moscow ) was a Soviet physicist and university teacher .

Life

Kutateladze came from a noble family of officers. After his parents divorced in 1918, he grew up with his mother Alexandra Vladimirovna, who was a midwife , first in Georgia and from 1922 in Petrograd . In 1932 he began without training centers Polsunow - boiler turbine -Institut in Leningrad to work. The father died in 1937 during the Great Terror in a camp near Novosibirsk .

From 1934 to 1938 Kutateladze studied at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute . During his studies he was excluded twice as anti- social. In 1938 he wrote a monograph on the fundamentals of the theory of heat transfer in the change of state .

During the German-Soviet War , Kutateladze served in the marine infantry in Murmansk . He was seriously wounded during a landing operation behind enemy lines. In 1943 he joined the CPSU . In August 1945 he was released into the reserve .

In 1945 Kutateladze became head of the Laboratory for Heat Transfer of the Polsunov Boiler Turbine Institute. He presented a hydrodynamic theory for nucleate boiling ( Kutateladze's burnout theory ) in his book on heat transfer in a two-phase system in 1949 . In 1950 he completed his studies as a distance learning student at the Polsunow Boiler Turbine Institute, defending his candidate dissertation . In 1952, after defending his dissertation on the analysis of hydrodynamic stability in the course of the mixing of gas and liquid, he received his doctorate . Kutateladze taught from 1953 at the Krylov - Naval Academy in Leningrad . He was one of the founders of the Institute of Thermophysics of the Siberian Department (SO) of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, from 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)), which was founded in Novosibirsk in 1957. In 1958, together with Michail Adolfowitsch Styrikowitsch , he wrote a monograph on the hydrodynamics of gas-liquid systems, which for the first time in the world summarized the theoretical and experimental foundations of this research area.

From 1959 Kutateladze worked in the SO of the AN-SSSR in Novosibirsk. In 1962 he became a professor and then head of the Department of Thermophysics at the Novosibirsk State University (NGU). From 1964 to 1986 he was director of the Institute for Thermophysics, which has had his name since 1994. In 1968 he was elected a corresponding member and in 1979 a full member of the AN-SSSR. Since 1976 he was chairman of the presidium of the SO of the AN-SSSR.

Together with Alexander Iwanowitsch Leontjew, Kutateladze developed a theory with dimensionless parameters for the turbulent boundary layer of compressible gases. Under Kutateladses line was on Kamchatka in Paratunka the world's first geothermal power - power plant on Freon built basis, which in 1967 began operating. Together with Vladimir Jeliferjewitsch Nakoryakov , Kutateladze investigated heat and mass transport and waves in gas-liquid systems. For the two-phase flow, Kutateladze developed a dimensionless number that now bears his name ( Kutateladze number ). In continuation of the ideas of Mikhail Viktorovich Kirpitschows and Alexander Adolfowitsch Guchmans , Kutateladze published a series of papers on similarity theory and in particular the monograph on similarity analysis and physical models. Together with Yakov Borisovich Zel'dovich and Vladimir Jeliferjewitsch Nakorjakow watched Kutateladze 1986, the formation of dilution shock waves .

Kutateladze's son is the mathematician Semjon Samsonowitsch Kutateladze .

Kutateladze was buried in the South Cemetery in Novosibirsk. The Kutateladze Prize is open to young scientists from SO der RAN. There is Kutateladze Street in Akademgorodok .
