Middelburg Lakes

The Middelburger See - from the south

The Middelburg Lakes nature reserve is located near Middelburg, in the Süsel community in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein . It was established on December 9, 1999. The area, which is located in Holstein Switzerland , is surrounded by a hilly moraine landscape .

It includes

• the Middelburg lake ,
• the Peper See ,
• the Achtersee and
• the lake Kohlborn

as well as their bank areas and the adjacent areas that are used for agriculture and forestry.

The water from Lake Peper and Lake Kohlborn flows over Lake Middelburg into Lake Achtersee and from there towards the Schwartau River .
