The Oldenburger Bruch is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein city ​​of Oldenburg in Holstein and the municipality of Göhl in the Ostholstein district .

The approximately 358  hectare nature reserve is registered under number 175 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled at the end of 1998 (date of regulation: December 7, 1998). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Ostholstein district. The nature reserve is almost completely part of the EU bird sanctuary "Oldenburger Graben". It is looked after by the Schleswig-Holstein regional association of the German Nature Conservation Union .

The nature reserve is located south of Oldenburg in Holstein in the Oldenburger Graben . It places part of the lowland landscape on both sides of the Oldenburg Graben under protection. The area in the low moor landscape created by silting up inland lakes is characterized by often elongated and small-plot hollows that were created by the extraction of peat . These excavation hollows filled with water after the peat was extracted and then silted up again, so that reeds , willow bushes and alder fragments could settle. Large parts are also occupied by wet meadows . There are ponds in places. Individual areas are used for arable farming.

Parts of the lowland areas in the nature reserve are by the damming of water rewetted . Extensive grazing with cattle and sheep prevents encroachment . Fallen broke meadow areas are part of Hochstaudenfluren populated.

The various habitats in the nature reserve provide a habitat for a species-rich flora and fauna. Over 120 species of birds have been identified that are native to the nature reserve or use the area as a resting or wintering area. The reed areas are z. B. breeding ground for Teichrohr- and sedge warbler , reed bunting , warbler , and also isolated the marsh harrier . The willow bushes offer u. a. Red- backed shrimp , scion , whinchat and potty tit habitat. The open meadow areas are of particular importance for waders and meadow birds . Here is u. a. to find the lapwing .

There are over 500 species of plants in the nature reserve, including broad-leaved orchid , large rattlespot , swamp thistle and yellow meadow rue as well as spotted orchid , ostrich loosestrife , fever clover , common adder's tongue and swamp violet . A 1.5 hectare orchid meadow in the south of the nature reserve is mowed regularly for maintenance. In trenches, u. a. Ordinary water hose . In the somewhat drier and sandy locations on the Kleiner Bungsberg in the south of the protected area, a. Carthusian Carnation and Heilziest to be found.

Several paths run through the nature reserve, some of which are designated as hiking trails . The paths are lined with numerous pollarded willows and poplars as evidence of earlier use. The head trees provide a habitat for bats , stone martens and stone owls , but also wasps and hornets .

The nature reserve is largely surrounded by agricultural land . In the west it borders on the Lübeck – Puttgarden railway line .
