Michael "Mik" Kaminski (born September 2, 1951 in Harrogate , England ) is a British violinist who was mainly known as a member of the Electric Light Orchestra .

Career

Kaminski made his first professional appearances with the Leeds Orchestra when he was 14 years old. During his time at the Leeds School of Music he formed the band "Cow" with his friends John Hodgson (drums) and John Marcangelo (keyboards and drums).

After an advertisement in the music magazine Melody Maker , Kaminski received a vacant position in the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) in 1973 and became one of three string players in the group. He played there until 1979 when Jeff Lynne decided to dismiss the string trio. However, Kaminski was hired as the only string player for the "Time Tour" 1981–1982 and for some concerts in 1986 as a live musician. In 1983 Jeff Lynne hired him as a studio musician to play the solo on the single "Rock 'n' Roll Is King". Later he also played in the ELO offshoot ELO Part II and as part of the live tour.

In addition to the hits with ELO, Kaminski had a top 40 hit in the British charts in 1979 as the front man of the group Violinski , with the single "Clog Dance".
