Xanadu is the soundtrack album for the film of the same name from 1980, consisting of various song material by the singer Olivia Newton-John and the British rock band Electric Light Orchestra . On the LP version , the songs by Olivia Newton-John and Electric Light Orchestra are each arranged on one side, but the song Xanadu sung by Olivia Newton-John is on the page with the songs of the Electric Light Orchestra because this song is from Jeff Lynne had been produced.

Although the film was not very successful, the soundtrack album turned out to be a sales hit. It was awarded a gold record in Great Britain and double platinum in the United States . The recordings took place with Reinhold Mack as a sound engineer in the Musicland Studios in Munich .

The cover of the album, which can be opened in purple and blue, only contains the words "XANADU featuring Electric Light Orchestra Olivia Newton-John" on the front. On the back, next to the title lists, there is a statuette-like picture of Olivia Newton-John, who appears to be holding the famous ELO spaceship aloft. The inside of the cover is a collage of eleven photos from the film. On the record sleeve, also in purple (side A) and blue (side B), the lyrics are printed as well as portrait photos of the two producers John Farrar and Jeff Lynne and a black and white group picture of the band.
