Secret Messages (German: "Geheime Nachrichten") is the eleventh studio album by the British band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO).
background
Secret Messages was listed at number six on the German album charts and number four on the British charts . In the United States, the album reached position 36 on the Billboard 200 .
The cover of the album (design: David Costa) shows pictorial quotes from various historical paintings and statues as a collage in a stylized picture frame . In the background of the cover, which is kept in brownish-blue colors, a number of exhaust air towers from power plants can be seen. In the right area of the picture, the band members watch from the windows of a house.
For example, the Venus de Milo is depicted there, a ten-denier stag can be seen in the center of the picture, and an angel modeled on Sandro Botticelli reaches for the ELO logo.
On the back there are different labels on a wooden box, which on the one hand reproduce the list of titles and on the other hand texts such as B. "WARNING CONTAINS SECRET BACKWARD MESSAGES" or "Brought of CURUTTOCK AND EVNABBE" (allusions to Kelly Groucutt and Bev Bevan) and other acronyms to Jeff Lynne ("FYJ F ENN EL") and Richard Tandy ("TD RYAN").
On the inner cover, the lyrics are again printed in a stylized picture frame.
