Mike Vernon (producer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mike Vernon (* 20th November 1944 in Harlow , Middlesex , England as Michael Vernon ) is a British producer and founder of the label Blue Horizon Records . He worked with many greats of the British blues scene , such as the Bluesbreakers , Duster Bennett , Savoy Brown , Chicken Shack , Eric Clapton , Fleetwood Mac , Peter Green , Danny Kirwan , John Mayall , Christine McVie , Ten Years After or the Climax Blues Band .

Although Vernon is mainly associated with the blues, he also worked outside this field, for example with David Bowie or in the field of progressive rock with Focus . After a few attempts at music of his own, he moved to Decca Records in 1963 , for which he persuaded John Mayall to record a record with Eric Clapton ( Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton ). He produced this record as well as the only record of the Bluesbreakers with Clapton's successor Peter Green ( A Hard Road ). In the 1970s he turned to soul . Towards the end of the millennium, he revived the Blue Horizon label and also founded several labels for blues music (for example Indigo and Code Blue).

After retiring and living mostly in Spain, he has occasionally produced young British blues musicians such as Oli Brown and Dani Wilde . In 2013 he received the British Blues Awards ' Lifetime Achievement Award .
