The Mikhail Gorbachev Award (MGA for short) - The Man Who Changed The World (The Mikhail Gorbachev Prize - The Man Who Changed the World) is an award that has been presented annually since 2011 and named after its founding sponsor, the ex-president of USSR and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Mikhail Gorbachev . He himself sees his task, and thus also the task of his prize, in ensuring that our cause is carried forward by future generations and that our grandchildren contribute to the change in this world in which we all live. The prize is awarded in three categories each year.

On the occasion of his 80th birthday in March 2011, Mikhail Gorbachev decided to use the media attention to publicly honor the people who have turned the world for the better. People whose great contribution to the development of our world today is unmistakable, but who have received little or no attention or gratitude for this. The Mikhail Gorbachev Award was launched together with the founding organizations The Gorbachev Foundation , World Summit for Nobel Peace Laureates , Green Cross International and New Policy Forum and presented on March 30, 2011 at the celebration of Mikhail Gorbachev's 80th birthday in London.

Nomination and selection

The nominees for the Mikhail Gorbachev Awards and its winners in the categories perestroika , uskorenie and glasnost are presented by the award council and elected in a secret ballot.

Bonus Council

The Premium Council is made up of representatives from all continents in the world. He has the right to nominate candidates for the Mikhail Gorbachev Award. Its members elect the winners of the categories perestroika, glasnost and uskorenie in a secret ballot.

The MGA is awarded in a different metropolis every year. The headquarters of the MGA, which also serves as the HQ for the Mikhail Gorbachev Award GmbH, is located opposite the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin (Unter den Linden 74) and will continue to be the global home of the MGA in the future.

MGA 2011: London
On March 30, 2011, the first Mikhail Gorbachev Awards ceremony took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The ceremony served both to celebrate Mikhail Gorbachev's 80th birthday and to honor three personalities who have made the world a better place.
In 2012 the second MGA ceremony will take place in Berlin. The concept of the ceremony has changed fundamentally.
MGA 2013: New York
On March 18, 2013, the MGA David H. Koch Theater's third ceremony will take place at Lincoln Center in New York.

Logo / corporate design

Since the Mikhail Gorbachev Award is presented in a different city every year and the appearance of the statuette differs from year to year, a dynamic corporate design was specially developed. Depending on the venue, the symbol within the wreath above the letter MGA varies.

Format and concept

On the occasion of Mikhail Gorbachev's 80th birthday, the first MGA ceremony had the character of a classic award ceremony, mixed with an exciting and colorful show.
