background
“Perestroika means change and is therefore a substantial part of the universe. The Mikhail Gorbachev Award aims to publicly manifest this irrefutable insight. The noble goal of our initiative is to accelerate the creative drive of modern people. I see it as my job to ensure that our cause is carried forward by future generations and that our heirs take care of the world in which we all live. "
On the occasion of his 80th birthday in March 2011, Mikhail Gorbachev decided to use the media attention to publicly honor the people who have turned the world for the better. People whose great contribution to the development of our world today is unmistakable, but who have received little or no attention or gratitude for this. The Mikhail Gorbachev Award was launched together with the founding organizations The Gorbachev Foundation , World Summit for Nobel Peace Laureates , Green Cross International and New Policy Forum and presented on March 30, 2011 at the celebration of Mikhail Gorbachev's 80th birthday in London.
