Miklós Szabó (middle distance runner)
Miklós Szabó [ ˈmikloːʃ ˈsɒboː ] (born December 6, 1908 in Budapest ; † December 3, 2000 there ) was a Hungarian middle-distance runner .
In 1934 the first European Athletics Championships took place in Turin . In 1500 Meters won Luigi Beccali in 3: 54.8 minutes ago Miklós Szabó in 3: 55.4 minutes. Two days later, Szabó fought again for victory with an Italian in the final of the 800-meter run . Szabó won by a judge's decision after he and Mario Lanzi were stopped with 1: 52.0 minutes.
At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 , Szabo was eliminated in the semi-finals over 800 meters. In the 1500 meter final he was seventh in 3: 53.0 minutes. In 1936 Szabo set a world record over 2000 meters with 5: 20.4 minutes, followed a year later with a world record over two miles with 8: 56.0 minutes. His world best of the year in 1937 over 1500 meters of 3: 48.6 minutes meant a European record. In total, he set 23 Hungarian records and won 16 championship titles.
With a height of 1.74 m, his competition weight was 66 kg. From 1947 to 1980, Szabó worked as a trainer in Sweden before returning to Hungary.
