Milena Oda
Milena Oda (born March 15, 1975 in Jičín , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech German-speaking writer .
Life
Milena Oda grew up in Stará Paka and attended a middle school in Litomyšl . Her mother tongue is Czech, self-study she acquired the German language and started later at the University of Olomouc , German and history to study.
She continued her studies in Romance studies , English and theater studies in Bayreuth , Salzburg , Klagenfurt and Düsseldorf. In Klagenfurt she also worked as a dramaturgy and assistant director at the local theater . At the same time she began to write her own literary texts in German. In 2001 she completed her studies with a master's degree in Olomouc and then lived in Düsseldorf. There she works at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus as a dramaturgy intern with Jürgen Gosch . Together with director Burkhard C. Kosminski , she worked as an assistant on the film Dancer in the Dark in a Czech-German theater performance of the same name. During this time, Milena Oda began composing her play More than the Sea .
She has lived in Berlin for several years now , as a freelance writer and translator from 2008 and in New York since 2011 . She mainly writes prose in German, but she is also the author of poetry , essays , narrative works and plays in German, Czech and English. Numerous publications in literary journals followed, including magazines and journals such as Ostragehege , Lose Blätter , Volltext , Lauter nobody and Umlaut . She also works as a translator and author for WDR 3 , the Prague newspaper , Literární noviny and Idnes.cz (Kavarna).

- 2007 - Nomination for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in Klagenfurt / Austria with the text Der Briefschreiber
- 2006 - Winner of the anonymous literature competition Marguerite d'Or within the framework of the Vienna Literature Festival with the narrative on every step
- 2006 - nomination for the sponsorship award of the city of Düsseldorf
- 2005 - Nomination for the theater prize of the Alfred Radoks Foundation (Prague) with the play More than the Sea
- 2003 - nomination of the play Schöne Aussichten or Mehr als Meer at Drama Köln
- 2002 - Nomination for the literature competition of German-speaking authors Open Mike, with the narration at every turn , organized by the Berlin Literature Workshop

- 2008 - Work stay at the translator house Looren, Switzerland
- 2006 - Translation grant from the European College of Translators in Straelen . Work on the translation of the novel by Jáchym Topol, Zirkuszone / Kloktat dehet from German into Czech with Andreas Trettner
- 2006 - Literature grant in the Burgdorf factory in Burgdorf
- 2005 - Residence grant at the Independent Literature House Lower Austria in Krems an der Donau
