Mirko Bott (born June 26, 1972 in Essen ) is a German playwright and theater director . Until 2016 he was program director and theater director of Schmidt Theater , Schmidts Tivoli and Schmidtchen in Hamburg , where he has also lived since 1997.

Life

education

Mirko Bott graduated from the Don-Bosco-Gymnasium in Essen in 1991 and gained first theater experience at the Aalto-Theater , the opera house in his hometown. In addition to working in the dramaturgy, he assisted director Klaus Dieter Kirst between 1993 and 1996 in his productions of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail (1993) and all four parts of Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (1994–96), as did Nicholas Broadhurst in Gioachino Rossini's The Barber of Seville (1994). He also worked as an assistant director and evening director at various summer festivals, including a. 1995–96 at “Oper im Zelt” on the banks of the Saar in Merzig (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Le nozze di Figaro , as well as Ralph Benatzky's Im Weißen Rössl ) and 1997 at the Clingenburg Festival in Klingenberg am Main ( William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew ). Activity as a playwright and director

In 1997 Bott began his freelance work as a director staging Franz Lehár's operetta The Merry Widow with soloists from the Hamburg State Opera at Schmidts Tivoli in Hamburg.

Since then he has written or directed numerous solo programs for singers and comedians such as Kay Ray and Emmi & Herr Willnowsky ; in addition, plays and shows for the Schmidt Theater in Hamburg, the Volkstheater Rostock (including Franz Lehárs The Merry Widow and Gaetano Donizetti's The Regiment's Daughter), the Hamburg Angel Hall (including Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus and Franz von Suppé's Die Schöne Galathée ) and since 2006 regular show programs for the AIDA Cruises fleet . By the end of 2014 there were around 35 shows.

Together with Christian Berg , he wrote the children's musicals Alice in Wonderland and Drei Hazelnuts for Cinderella, which went on tour nationwide, and in 2009 together with Heiko Wohlgemuth, the four-part TV comedy Pension Schmidt for NDR television .

The show Karamba - Die 70er-Schlager-Revue , which was premiered in 2008, was played almost 700 times for the Schmidt Theater in Hamburg, co-authored with Martin Lingnau and directed by Corny Littmann .

Since 2011 the musical two-person comedy Oh Alpenglühn! on the program that Bott wrote for Carolin Fortenbacher and Nik Breidenbach and which was also staged by Corny Littmann.

In October 2012 the solo piece CAVEQUEEN , which Bott wrote together with Heiko Wohlgemuth and Mark Needham, had its world premiere at the Schmidt Theater . Nik Breidenbach played the title role in the direction of Corny Littmann. The three authors were commissioned by Theater Mogul, Berlin, which also owns the rights to the globally successful solo piece CAVEMAN . Since then, CAVEQUEEN has not only been shown at the Schmidt Theater in Hamburg, but is also performed in Cologne, Munich, Berlin, Dresden, Fürth, Kiel, Erfurt and other cities.

In September 2013, the musical comedy Die Königs vom Kiez , which Bott wrote together with Martin Lingnau and Heiko Wohlgemuth, premiered in the Schmidt Theater in Hamburg , directed by Corny Littmann and has been on the program ever since.

Theater management

In 2004 Bott took over the position of program director of Schmidt Theater & Schmidts Tivoli on the Hamburg Reeperbahn, which he was artistic director together with Corny Littmann until 2016 . With 420,000 spectators, "Schmidt" is - according to its own statements for 2014 - the most successful private theater in Germany. Bott not only wrote pieces for the house, but also designed the program with over 1000 performances in 2015, booked the guest artists and put together the annual six-week Schmidt winter gala.

Since 2004 he has been presenting young opera singers at the Hamburg Opera Salon and is also a permanent juror at the Hamburg Comedy Cup .
