Mission is a city in Hidalgo County in the US state of Texas .
geography
The city is located on US Highway 83 and Highway 107 in southwest Texas, is 7 km in the south from the Rio Grande and the border with Mexico , in the east about 110 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 62.5 km² without notable water surface.

According to the 2000 census, 45,408 people in 13,766 households and 11,384 families lived here. The population density was 726.6 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 77.63% White, 0.37% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, and 18.64% other ethnic groups. About 2.34% were mixed race and 81.03% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 13,766 households, 43.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 64.8% of these were married couples living together. 14.5% were single mothers and 17.3% were non-families. 15.3% of all households were single households and 9.1% had people living there who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.29 and the average family size was 3.68 people.
32.1% of the population were under 18 years old, 9.8% 18 to 24, 26.8% 25 to 44, 17.1% 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 91.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 85.3 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 30,647 , and the median income for a family is $ 33,465. Males had a median income of $ 25,710 versus $ 20,718 for females.
