Mittelsee in the southern part of the Gamengrund north of Strausberg |
The elongated middle lake lies in the Ice Age gully of the Gamengrund north of the Gamensee near Tiefensee and south of Leuenberg im Barnim 500–800 m east of the B 158 . The Wriezener Bahn , which is closed in this section, crosses the Gamengrund between the Mittelsee and the adjacent Langen Haussee (southern Langen See) . The separation between the two lakes existed before the railway line was laid. The route can be traveled by draisine from Tiefensee .
The Mittelsee is a channel lake about one kilometer long and up to 80 m wide. After the two Gamenseen (near Tiefensee and near Falkenberg ) and the Langen Haussee , it ranks fourth among the lakes in the Gamengrund together with the (northern) Langen See. It is located in its southern part, which stretches from Leuenberg through the extensive forest area between Hirschfelde and Sternebeck .
The water level of the middle lake is on average 77.9 m above sea level. However, corresponding to the regional groundwater level , it is subject to significant fluctuations of 1.5 to 2.5 m. The lake belongs to an area with no surface drainage, but together with the two neighboring lakes, Gamensee and Langer Haussee, feeds the Fredersdorfer Mühlenfließ, which rises in the southernmost part of the Gamengrund, through natural underground drains . The mid-lake is an almost complete one to three meters wide Seggensaum surrounded the southern part sporadically, a two to three meter wide cattail is -Röhricht upstream. The banks, which are steep everywhere, are made of alders . The lake has stocks of the milfoil and the floating pondweed , occasionally also the alpine pondweed . The fish in the lake include carp , pike , perch and rudd .
The lake is popular as a bathing lake and as a fishing spot. It is also managed by a fishing company in Prötzel .
