Gamensee in the southern part of the Gamengrund north of Strausberg |
The Gamensee (or Großer Gamensee) is located near Tiefensee in the state of Brandenburg.
Natural location
The lake is located in the Gamengrund gully from the Ice Age , a geotope that cuts through the Barnim plateau , in the large contiguous forest area north of Strausberg near Berlin , which extends from Hirschfelde in the southwest to Sternebeck in the northeast. Like Tiefensee, the west bank of the lake has belonged to the city of Werneuchen since 2003 , the east bank is shared by the communities of Höhenland in the north and Prötzel in the south.
The water level is on average 76 m above sea level. NHN , but is exposed to clear fluctuations of 1.5 to 2.5 m corresponding to the regional groundwater level. The lake belongs to an area with no surface drainage, but together with the two northern neighboring lakes, Mittelsee and Langer Haussee , feeds the Fredersdorfer Mühlenfließ, which rises in the southernmost part of the Gamengrund, through natural underground drains .
The approximately two kilometer long Gamensee is the largest and at the same time deepest channel lake in the Gamengrund. It is surrounded by a one to three meter wide, almost closed reed border, which is in sections dominated by various species. In the northern part there are predominantly reeds and twigs , and in the southern part the swamp sedge . On the bank there is a border of alders , on the northeast bank hazel bushes . The depth of the lake increases towards the south. In the flatter northern part there are island-like stocks of crab claws . There are also smaller stocks of the floating pondweed and the milfoil . In areas close to the shore there are isolated populations of the yellow pond rose . The Gamensee was classified as highly eutrophic .
Tourism and recreational activities
The Gamensee can be used both as a bathing lake and as a fishing lake. There is a campsite at its northern end . Eel , perch , bream , pike , carp , roach , tench and pikeperch are fished . The lake is also managed by a fishing company in Prötzel .
etymology
In the Schmettauschen map series (1767–1787) it is entered as “Jamsee”, while the (second) Gamensee , which is less known today , in the far north of the Gamengrund, was already called “Gahmensee” back then. The name is derived from the old Polish "jam'n-" (from "jama"; German: "Wildgrube, Höhle, recess").
