Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation , also abbreviated to MC3 , is a first-person shooter developed by Gameloft for iOS and Android . Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation continues the Modern Combat franchise after the releases of Modern Combat: Sandstorm and Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus . It was released for Apple iOS on October 27, 2011 and for Android on December 18, 2011. The first update was released on February 23, 2012.

Gameplay

The game continues the Modern Combat series system of dividing the game into campaign and multiplayer .

campaign

The player takes on the role of several soldiers of the US Army , who have to complete a total of 13 missions in the USA, Pakistan, Russia and North Korea. The objectives of the mission must all be completed in order for the plot to continue. The radar has been added, which marks enemies in red on a screen in real time. The player carries out the missions with various weapons and attachments.

Multiplayer

The multiplayer can be played both online via Gameloft Live and locally via a WiFi connection. Up to 12 players can play against and with each other on 8 different maps (alarm, reconnaissance, support, countdown, intoxication, warehouse, separate and climb) in 7 modes (e.g. Capture the Flag and Deathmatch ), while Modern Combat 2 were only 4 game modes on 5 maps. The player can create and edit weapon classes. More than 20 weapons to choose from include pistols, pump guns, sniper rifles, assault rifles, light machine guns, heavy machine guns and bazookas. In addition, you can choose 3 of more than 40 skills to be used for each weapon class. In addition to the primary weapons (assault rifles, sniper rifles, light machine guns), you can also choose a secondary weapon (pistol, pump gun, bazooka). In addition, a killstreak system is used, which rewards the player for his kill series in the form of special air support. There is also an experience points (EP) and ranking system with which you can earn improved weapons and equipment with the ranks. There are a total of 90 ranks. If you have reached rank 90, you can choose whether you want to switch to prestige mode or not. In prestige mode you start again from rank 1, but you keep all purchased objects (but these must be unlocked again) and a different rank symbol in each prestige (10 in total). You earn a certain amount of XP and play money for every action you take. The money can be used to buy weapons and equipment that have already been unlocked. The play money can also be bought as an in-app purchase with real money.

weapons

The weapons are mostly fictional, but they are based on real weapons. The KT-44 is z. B. a direct reference to the AK-47 . The weapons arsenal includes pistols , assault rifles , repeater shotguns , rocket and grenade launchers , light and heavy machine guns , sniper rifles , various grenades and protective vests.

List of all weapons (with real weapon names after them):

Primary weapons:

Secondary weapons:

Grenades:

  • Frag grenade
  • Flash grenade
  • Concussion grenade
  • Sticky grenade
  • Incendiary grenade
  • Throwing knife

Kill series

Another innovation in the multiplayer mode of Modern Combat 3 are the kill series. You can get these rewards by doing a certain number of kills without dying. The kill series includes kills with primary and secondary weapons as well as with grenades. Kills with the rewards do not count towards the series. Every player always has all the killing series with them, i.e. they do not have to be selected separately. The rewards include:

Surname Required kills description
Satellite scan 3 The satellite scan causes the enemies to appear on the radar as red dots for about 30 seconds.
Air raid 5 The air raid causes a fighter plane to drop a bomb on the map where most of the players are.
gun 7th The gun can be set up anywhere on the map, should it spot enemies, it will shoot them automatically.
helicopter 10 When the helicopter is used, it flies once along the edge of the map and shoots at the enemy from above.
bomber 13 The bomber flies once over the map, dropping bombs that kill the enemy.
Atomic bomb 20th If the atom bomb is detonated, it kills all players on the whole map and ends the game.

action

people

Various people from Modern Combat 2 appear in this part: For example, Captain Turner (who is killed in the course of the game), Private Downs (or Sergeant Downs), Sergeant Anderson, Warrant Officer Starks and General Popovich. The player takes on the role of the soldiers Corporal James Walker and Master Sergeant Carter. Carter apparently dies after a helicopter crash.

Content of the plot

Terrorists from Russia , North Korea and Pakistan have formed a terrorist network called the KPR. In addition to the war it is waging against its own governments, the KPR has also declared war on the United States . The US armed forces are relatively powerless because the KPR brought about the entire collapse of the communications networks and deposited weapons of mass destruction in several cities. The player first slips into the role of Corporal James Walker, who, together with his unit Anvil 1, has to infiltrate the NSA building occupied by KPR troops in Los Angeles and secure important data.

After several missions the order changes. Anvil 1 is almost completely killed during a mission and Walker is recruited by Sgt. Downs, head of the Phantom Unit. The Phantom Unit first operates in Alaska to rescue missing members of the Razor Squad (known from Modern Combat 2 ). The leaders of the KPR are now known to the armed forces: General Popovich, General Tong and Edward Page. This is followed by the infiltration of a KPR aircraft carrier, which served as a starting point for KPR air support and is used as a floating weapons store. There the phantom unit will find jets which, according to US information, are still in the test phase. An arms factory in Siberia is now being infiltrated as the origin of these weapons. There it becomes clear that the delivery of the weapons was abandoned by Edward Page. It is decided to kill the KPR command post in order to weaken the KPR. As a result, the Phantom unit is sent to Pakistan, where they can capture Edward Page despite heavy losses. He reveals the location of General Tong, who is on a North Korean military air base.

The Phantom Unit is dispatched to arrest General Tong, dead or alive. Meanwhile, a nuclear missile is being launched into Seattle by the KPR troops under Tong. After heavy fighting, the Phantom Unit can catch Tong; however she finds herself forced to kill Tong due to a heavy defense. Traces later lead the Phantom unit to a missile base in North Korea. They should infiltrate it, destroy the nuclear missiles inside and then kill General Popovich. However, the Phantom unit is captured by General Popovich's forces after an ambush. In the final mission, the Phantom unit can fight its way free, destroy the missile base and kill Popovich.

In the credits you see American soldiers recapturing the country.
