Modibo Sidibé

Modibo Sidibé (born November 7, 1952 in Bamako ) is a politician and was Prime Minister of Mali from 2007 to 2011 . He is a brother of the former Prime Minister Mandé Sidibé .

During his studies, Sidibé completed a parachutist and weapons training and earned a number of academic degrees, including a Maîtrise in public law in Perpignan, France in 1976 and a Diplôme d'études approfondies in Aix-en-Provence in criminal law and criminology in 1979 .

In 1986 Sidibé became a technical advisor in the Ministry of Defense, but at the same time worked as chief and later inspector general of the police. In 1989 he became State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense and in 1991 in the Ministry of Internal Security, before becoming head of cabinet in the ministerial rank of Cabinet in the interim government of Military Commander Amadou Toumani Touré after the fall of Moussa Traoré's regime . Under Head of State Alpha Oumar Konaré , Sidibé was appointed Minister for Health, Solidarity and the Elderly in April 1993. He remained in this office until he was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation on September 16, 1997.

After Touré was elected President, Sidibé was appointed his Secretary General with the rank of Minister on June 9, 2002. He held this position until he was sworn in as Prime Minister by President Touré on September 28, 2007. His government took office on October 3, 2007. Sidibé resigned about a year before the planned 2012 presidential election on March 30, 2011; Before the coup in Mali in 2012 , it was suspected that he was preparing to run for Touré's successor. In fact, Sidibé ran in the 2013 elections . However, he could only assert himself in fourth place.
