Mohlabi Kenneth Tsokoa (born August 13, 1945 ) is a diplomat and politician from Lesotho . From 2002 to 2015 he was Lesotho's Foreign Minister with one interruption .

Life

After attending school, Tsekoa completed a teaching degree at the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland (UBLS) , which he completed in 1970 with a certificate as a teacher for secondary school. Between 1970 and 1974 he was a teacher at Hlotse High School . After a part-time postgraduate course at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne , he received a diploma in education from there in 1973 . In 1974 he was appointed deputy principal at St. Agnes High School in Teyateyaneng , where he was also a teacher of mathematics and science until 1976 . At the same time he studied at the National University of Lesotho , where he obtained a Bachelor of Education (B.Educ.) In 1976 .

In 1976 he moved to the Lesotho Distance Teaching Center (LDTC) as a senior lecturer , of which he became director in 1978. In the following years he completed another postgraduate course in Massachusetts , which he completed in 1981 with a Master of Arts in organizational management and international education. Between 1984 and 1986 he was Deputy Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Education before he was its Chief Secretary until 1989.

Tsekoa was appointed High Commissioner for Lesotho in Great Britain in 1989 and was also accredited as Ambassador to Ireland , Portugal and Spain until 1996 . During this time he also obtained a Master of Arts degree in Diplomacy and International Relations in 1994 . After returning to Lesotho, he was Secretary of the Government from 1996 to 2001 and at the same time Head of the Public Service.

On July 5, 2001, Prime Minister Bethuel Pakalitha Mosisili appointed him as finance minister in his cabinet. As part of a government reshuffle, he became Foreign Minister for the first time on June 12, 2002. He held this office until 2004. In 2005, Prime Minister Mosisili appointed him Minister of Education and Training in a cabinet reshuffle, until he was finally appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations by Mosisili on March 2, 2007.

Tsekoa, who is a member of the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD), was elected Member of the National Assembly in 2006 to represent the Senqu constituency. In his role as Foreign Minister, he gave a speech at the General Assembly of the United Nations in September 2008 , in which he discussed the energy crisis, the fight against famine and international security.

In the 2012 elections , the Mosisili government was voted out of office; However, Tsekoa remained Foreign Minister. In 2015 he was replaced by Tlohang Sekhamane .
