Moishe Friedman

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Moishe Arye Friedman (* 17th February 1972 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American , in Antwerp ( Belgium ) living ultra-Orthodox Jew and Zionist , the Holocaust denial are accused of fraud and title fraud.

Friedman claims to be chief rabbi of a devout “anti-Zionist Orthodox Jewish community in Vienna”. Since he does not have a rabbi diploma, however, he is referred to by critics as a "rabbi actor" and the community as "an officially unrecognized one-man company".

family

Moishe Arye Friedman was born in Brooklyn, the eldest son of a family in the Satmar Jewish community. He spent his youth in Williamsburg (Brooklyn, NY). His father, a businessman, was born in Germany after World War II ; his mother is from Brooklyn. His paternal and maternal grandparents were Holocaust survivors. He is married to Lea Rosenzweig and has eight children.

Life

Friedman is a member of the anti-Zionist ultra-orthodox Neturei Karta movement .

Friedman tried several times to set up his own officially recognized anti-Zionist community to compete with the Vienna Israelite Cultural Community (IKG) , but did not succeed. His “Orthodox Jewish Community Vienna Austria” is neither recognized by the Austrian state nor by the majority of the Jewish community in Austria or the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien. He is banned from entering all premises of the IKG Vienna.

Friedman lived for a time in the Belgian Antwerp , but left the country after a personal bankruptcy. He then went to Vienna, where in 2000 he illegally took possession of the Jewish prayer house at Lorbeergasse 9, stealing two Torah scrolls that were reported missing in 2002. During a house search in November 2007, the two valuable Torah scrolls were found in Friedman's apartment. After Chief Rabbi Eisenberg and all other rabbis of Vienna condemned Friedman's behavior, Friedman tried to found his own Jewish community. However, due to a lack of members, the “Anti-Zionist Orthodox Jewish Community” was not officially recognized.

2003 supported Friedman the CDU - members of parliament Martin Hohmann after it as anti-Semitic criticized speech on the Day of German Unity on October 3, 2003. In July, 2004, the Neturei Karta in Vienna an "international anti-Zionist rabbi Conference" on the Friedman gave the opening speech and who also Hohmann participated as a speaker.

In February 2006 Friedman took part in an international conference organized by the Iranian government in Isfahan on the Mohammed cartoon dispute. Among other things, he said there: "We also pray for a bloodless end to the State of Israel, so that Jews and Muslims in the Middle East can live together in peace again, as they have done for centuries."

On October 21, 2006, he was a speaker at the Al Quds Day demonstration in Berlin, including at the closing rally.

In December 2006 Friedman took part in the Holocaust conference in Tehran , organized by the Iranian government , at which he claimed, referring to the Holocaust , "that the masterminds behind the scenes and some war criminals themselves were Zionists ". He was also quoted as saying that the Holocaust was "a successful fiction". In response to criticism of their participation, the organization stated:

"We affirmed the reality of the mass murder of Jews during the Second World War."

"We reaffirmed the reality of the mass murder of Jews during World War II."

Since then Friedman has been called a Holocaust denier by various quarters .

Friedman himself believes that his opinion is completely misrepresented in the press and calls it "a lie".

As a result, on January 11, 2007, he was expelled from the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien "for grossly damaging behavior, in particular his contacts with historical revisionist , anti-Semitic circles, and relevant statements" and he was reported to the public prosecutor on suspicion of violating § 3 g and Section 3h Prohibition Act (National Socialist activity and downplaying the National Socialist genocide).

During a visit to Poland in March 2007, Friedman was assaulted by Yehuda Meshi-Zahav , co-founder of the Israeli ZAKA organization, and two other people who recognized him as a participant in the Tehran “Holocaust Conference”.

Since the end of 2011 he has been living in Antwerp again. There he tried to have his children taught in a Jewish school. After a few unsuccessful attempts, he was able to obtain an injunction that forces Jewish schools to teach Friedman's children under threat of heavy fines. However, this injunction was revised at the next instance. In June 2013 a Belgian court of appeal finally ruled that Jewish schools are obliged to accept Friedman's children, as the father's political views should not influence the treatment of the children.

In March 2013, Friedman wished a nine-year-old police investigation into a murder case would be reopened. Friedman claimed that Moshe Yitzchak Naeh was murdered by the "Jewish Mafia".

Rabbi Pinkas Kornfeld , Vice-President of the Flemish Forum of Jewish Organizations ( Vlaams Forum der Joodse Organisaties ), says Friedman is a troublemaker who only wants to damage the reputation of his opponents.
