Monika Gabriel (born October 15, 1943 in Eichenbrück , Wartheland , † March 7, 2007 in Berlin-Spandau ) was a German actress and voice actress .

Life

Monika Gabriel, who was born near Posen , grew up in Falkensee , Brandenburg, from 1949 , where she began taking ballet lessons at the age of 11. From 1957 to 1961 she trained as a professional dancer at the University of Artistic Dance and the State Ballet School Berlin. From 1962 she also took on smaller speaking roles in stage productions at the Berlin Metropol Theater , where a little later she also got lead roles in musical productions such as Kiss me Kate .

However, she became known to a wide audience through her participation in film and television productions. In 1962 she made her debut at DEFA as a page in the fairy tale film Das Kleid based on Hans Christian Andersen . Over the next few years, leading roles in productions such as Love Doesn't Need PS , Angels, Sins and Traffic (from the Stacheltier film series popular in the GDR ), Berlin around the corner , Ein Lord am Alexanderplatz , We let us divorce and Jungfer, followed. I like it (based on Jurek Becker ).

In 1969, while filming the seventh year, she met the West German actor Wolfgang Kieling , who had recently moved to the GDR. They married the following year. When Kieling returned to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1971, Monika Gabriel also received an exit permit. From then on she played mainly in television productions such as the crime film The Death in the Mask from the series Dem Täter on the Track , the Tatort production Schöne Belinda , the television film Die Rakete (directed by Dieter Wedel ) and guest roles in the series Sonderdezernat K1 , Derrick , On the move , fire chief Felix Martin (with Kieling in the main role) and in a class of its own . Monika Gabriel was married a total of four times: with fellow actors Stefan Lisewski , Armin Mueller-Stahl and Wolfgang Kieling (until 1975) and in her fourth marriage with the director and Grimme Prize winner Wilfried Dotzel .

Monika Gabriel succumbed to cancer in 2007. She was buried in her adopted home of Falkensee.
