action

An epidemic breaks out in a small mountain village outside the city walls of Hanyang . The king has the inhabitants killed. But the soldier Yun-kyum wants to save a little girl. King Jungjong then releases him into exile. Far away from the capital, Yun-kyum and his younger brother raise the rescued girl Myung.

Years later, the people speak of a threat from the mountains, a monster that is supposed to rage there. The population calls it monster ( mulgoe ). However, the king doubts the existence and suspects an intrigue by Minister Sim Woon. He sends his soldier Hur to bring Yun-kyum back to the palace because his best man is supposed to solve the case. Myung is now an excellent archer and accompanies him, along with Sung-han, who was the second best soldier in the royal army at the time.

Yun-kyum finds a crime scene. A girl says that she saw the monster. But since she looks so confident, he doesn't trust her. He finds out that she was paid to testify. When he examines the corpses, they appear as if people tortured them to death. Except for a corpse. A villager died of a contagious disease. The king sends him into the mountains with a large search party consisting of volunteers and hundreds of Sim Woon's people to finally find out the truth. However, the action turns out to be part of Sim Woon's plan. He just wanted to bring his troops to Hanyang's gates. They can only do so under urgent circumstances with the permission of the King. In the mountains, Sim Woon's people kill the villagers. But suddenly a monster actually appears to everyone's horror, giving Yun-kyum and Sung-han the opportunity to escape.

The monster attacks Sim Woon's people. Yun-kyum sees the opportunity to climb into the chasm the monster came out of, as Myung and Hur were thrown into it by Sim Woon's soldiers. To her surprise, there is also the old villager who accompanied her on the way with the others. He leads them into the palace via an underground path. Back when Yeonsan was king, he was interested in beasts and allowed to breed. The old man was one of the breeders. But when Sim Woon carried out an intrigue against the king, all beasts were to be killed. However, the now old man released a small animal in time. It got to the place where the new King Jungjong had the villagers killed because of the plague. The animal ate the corpses and the plague used its body as a host.

Yun-kyum wants to warn the king. But within the city the intrigue is already underway. However, the monster also reaches the capital. Sim Woon's people can capture it, but Sim Woon wants to release it again so that he can later kill it in front of the people to stand as a hero. But the monster is underestimated and can free itself. While it kills Sim Woon, Yun-kyum brings the king to safety. You plan to kill the animal with a large bomb. But the door can extinguish the fuse. Yun-kyum decides to stay behind to detonate the bomb directly. Thereby he kills the monster and can skillfully survive himself.
