The municipality of Montero is a district in the Santa Cruz department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of Montero is one of five municipalities in the province of Obispo Santistevan . It is bordered to the north by the Municipio General Saavedra , to the west and south-west by the province of Sara , and to the south-east and east by the province of Ignacio Warnes . It extends from west to east for up to 25 kilometers and from north to south for up to 20 kilometers.

The central place of the municipality is the city of Montero with 107,294 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the center of the municipality.

The municipality of Montero is located in the tropical humid climate in front of the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental . The region was covered by subtropical rainforest before colonization , but is now mostly cultivated land .

The mean average temperature of the region is almost 25 ° C (see Santa Cruz climate diagram), the monthly averages fluctuate between 20 ° C in July and 28 ° C in December. The annual precipitation is about 1300 mm, the monthly precipitation is productive and lies between 40 mm in August and 200 mm in January.
