Montevideo [ ˌmɒntəvɪdi.oʊ ] is a small town (with the status " City ") and the administrative seat of Chippewa County in the mid-southwest of the US -amerikanischen state of Minnesota . In 2010 , Montevideo had 5383 inhabitants.
Montevideo has four schools, a hospital and several credit institutions. There are a total of twelve parks in Montevideo. Festivals take place several times a year, such as the “Fiesta Days”. There are also opportunities for hunting and recreation.
Since 1949 there has been a town partnership with the Uruguayan capital of the same name, Montevideo . On the part of the Uruguayan twin city, the American town received a statue of the Uruguayan national hero José Gervasio Artigas ', which is now placed in the square on Main Street.

Montevideo is about 200 kilometers west of Minneapolis . The city is located at the confluence of the Chippewa River and the Minnesota River and is at the intersection of US Highways 59 and 212 and State Routes 7 and 29 .
There are smaller inland lakes around the city . The surrounding area consists of farmland and prairies, broken up by river valleys and low hills.
According to the data of the United States Census Bureau , the city has an area of 11.8 km² , of which 11.6 km² consists of land and 0.1 km² (= 1.10%) consists of water.
