history

In the festschrift from 1980 for the historical celebration "Morenhoven - more than 1000 years" it is pointed out that Morenhoven was probably first mentioned in a document in the 9th century. Documentary evidence of the Morenhoven moated castle can be traced back to the 13th century. The Catholic Church in its present form was consecrated on December 6, 1827. St. Nicholas, St. Sebastianus and St. Anna are venerated. One of the three church bells dates from the 14th century. A map made by hand from 1793 shows the Morenhoven district with old corridor and route directions. In the 1950s, the place developed into a popular place to live due to its proximity to the seat of the federal government in Bonn.

On August 1, 1969, Morenhoven was incorporated into Swisttal.

Culture and sights

architecture

The Morenhovener Church of St. Nikolaus is still surrounded by a few half-timbered houses typical of the landscape. The moated castle Morenhoven on the outskirts is occasionally used for cultural events (piano concerts, cabaret etc.) and private festivities. Müttinghoven Castle is privately owned.

Morenhovener Cabaret Days

The Morenhovener Cabaret Days have been held since 1987 in the old school, now a youth art school and cultural center, and the multi-purpose hall, previously also in the Morenhoven water castle. The more well-known artists, such as Konrad Beikircher or Dieter Nuhr, compete in the more spacious halls in Rheinbach or Swisttal-Heimerzheim because of the great demand for tickets.

The Morenhovener Kabarett-Tage is sponsored by the Culture and Spectacle in Swisttal Initiative (KuSS) , supported by an association with around 350 members, the Rhineland Regional Council , the Swisttal municipality , the Rhein-Sieg district and various companies. The initiator of the association is the classical scholar Klaus Grewe .

The "old school" in Morenhoven was extensively refurbished and renovated a few years ago by the municipality of Swisttal. The Morenhoven (Krea) creativity school was founded here in 1977. Events of art and spectacles in Swisttal (KuSS) find an appropriate framework here.

Transport links

There is a bus connection to Heimerzheim via line 845 as part of the local public transport in the Rhein-Sieg transport association and Bonn can be reached in the opposite direction via Buschhoven . There is also a school bus service to Buschhoven and Rheinbach .

A cycle path leads along the Swist from Rheinbach - Flerzheim towards Heimerzheim, another from Rheinbach via Buschhoven through the Kottenforst towards Bonn. The B 56 , A 61 and the connections via Bonn are available as nearby long-distance connections.
