Morning life begins , German distribution title Damn not the young sinner , is an Austrian social problem film from 1961. Directed by Hermann Leitner play cordula trantow , Corny Collins , Magda Schneider , Werner Hinz , Walter Wilz and Rainer Brandt , the lead roles. The film poster had the headline at the time: "In all openness: a topic that affects young and old alike."

action

The story takes place among young people in the early 1960s and is intended, as has often been seen since the film The Youngsters , to warn young people of the dangers of amorality and vice. At the center of the action is the 17-year-old Sylvia Reimers, who was made pregnant by the somewhat older Walter Dobel, a simple worker. She becomes a mother and is now alone with her problems, especially since the father of her child is quite baseless himself and has gotten into the clutches of an unscrupulous peer named Pitt. Walter owes it to Sylvia's commitment that Pitt can no longer be a threat to him. After all, childcare helps the young mother get her life under control too. And Walter also thinks about it and is ready to take responsibility for his child and to offer him a home with Sylvia.

At the same time, the story of the somewhat older Ruth Jüttner, a daughter from a good family, is told. Ruth's parents are wealthy people, the father strict, the mother indulgent and benevolent and endeavored not to completely sever contact with the young woman despite all the differences that exist between parents and daughter. Ruth soon finds herself in criminal circles, a sign of rebellion against her oppressive father and his patriarchal approach to upbringing. After Ruth repeatedly got into difficult situations and caused an accident while drunk, she is taken to a care home. Fred, a wealthy young admirer who keeps getting her into precarious situations, is not entirely innocent. The young girl's descent seems inevitable. After Ruth fled the home with Fred's help, she caused another traffic accident, but this time with injuries. She sits crying on the side of the road and stutters that she wants to go home without knowing that her parents have decided in a late night conversation to bring her daughter back home and empathize with her more and do a lot differently than before.

Reviews

In a review that was written at the time the film was released, it says: “If it weren't such a long way from the good intention to the appropriate artistic design, we would have better films in this country. Director Hermann Leitner, who shot this new youth problem film based on his own idea, also provides a prime example of this almost tragic discrepancy. The new story isn't so important as the authenticity of the milieu and its people. The characters here are more or less cliché figures, which even the best acting efforts can hardly breathe life into. The fact that the film only allows two exemplary girls' fates to run side by side also leads to a more than harsh editing technique that disturbs the overall picture. "

Paimann's film lists summed up: “A plot that, despite problems, is schematic, played by the young next to the established; linguistically settled in northern Germany despite the outdoor shots in Vienna. "

“A 'warning film' about the problems of young people, sedately staged in the style of the times: the socially endangered of two girls from opposing milieus turns around, while the middle-class takes longer to become wise. Well-intentioned, but clichéd and superficial. "
