geography

Muggardt is 370 to 390  m above sea level. NHN in Markgräflerland , about 28 kilometers southwest of Freiburg on the edge of the Black Forest . The protected valley location of Muggardt opens to the southwest to the foothills zone and the Upper Rhine Plain . The Muggardbach , fed from the east at over 500  m above sea level. economy

The local economy focuses on viticulture and tourism .

Viticulture

The Britzingen wine cooperative , which manages the Muggardter Berg, broke new ground at the beginning of the 21st century to stop the increasing decline of the steep slope . It acquired through a land consolidation process an area of one hectare of Muggardter mountain, the wine legally on the situation Britzinger Sun Hollow counts and leased the Rebstücke to two members. The amount of work in the steep, non-navigable vineyards had become too great and uneconomical, so the decision was made to create transverse terraces on shallow, weathered limestone soil . They were completely replanted with Pinot Noir vines in spring 2004 . The aim was to produce a quality red wine in this south-facing location, which is rather rare for the Markgräflerland. The first vintage of this wine was pressed in 2006 .

For motorized vehicles, Muggardt can be reached via a junction from the L 125 (east of Britzingen), which leads from Müllheim to Staufen .
